Chapter 7

They missed the story fire the next evening, and the evening after that, and again and again. Not that it signified—no one expected to see them in the hall now. Wolf had tried at first to pass off some excuse for his and Marc’s absence, but there were only so many things that might keep a man from the usual after-supper entertainment, and he had used nearly all of them. They were patrolling the compound’s perimeter. Clearing the aqueduct of debris. Checking the roof tiles in advance of winter rains.

“Roof tiles?” Philip had raised an eyebrow at that.

“Roof tiles.”

Philip had examined Wolf’s empty hands. “Need a lantern?”

“Oh, uh…”

With a chuckle and a clap on Wolf’s shoulder, the cleric had bid him not to fall off the roof and crack his skull.

“Crack your skull, eh?” Marc’s voice was rougher than usual this night, his strain apparent. “He does realize you have the hardest head in this place?”

Wolf shifted one knee, brushing Marc’s rigid prick.

Marc hissed.

“Perhaps not the hardest.”

Wolf was in a good mood. He had a surprise to share, but until he could, he would trade teases.

Marc grinned up at him, his long-broken canine tooth giving him the look of a brigand. His fingers repaid Wolf with a light stroke up his shaft.

Wolf pressed his head back into the straw and breathed through the rush of pleasure. Below them, horses shuffled in their stalls, sending warmth into the loft. He focused on the crisscross of the stable’s beams overhead until the threat of climax receded. “I should have said we would be checking the horses.”

“Good thing I’m able to keep a clear head.” Marc blew across the damp head of Wolf’s prick, drawing a groan. “That’s pretty much what I told Tiro.”

Wolf huffed until he could speak. “And he said?”

“Told me to muck out my own horse shit while I was at it.”

Wolf laughed. “They must think we’re fools.”

“Who cares?”

“You don’t?”

Marc raised his head. “No.” As he held Wolf’s gaze, he swiped his tongue up Wolf, root to tip.

Wolf gripped the reins looped around his wrists. Though Marc had tied them to the post behind Wolf’s head, they didn’t restrain him. Rather, they gave him something to hold on to since he wasn’t allowed to touch Marcus. He clutched them tightly as Marc’s tongue topped Wolf’s blunt head, his lips closing over it for a light suck.

“I’m close.”

Marc pulled away. Kissed Wolf’s thigh, let his fingers play in the hair on Wolf’s belly.

They were fools, absolute idiots for each other. And while their neighbors’ knowing smirks made Wolf blush, he didn’t care any more than Marc did. His man lay naked between his splayed legs, and if he could have, he would have wrapped them around Marc and trapped him there forever. Even if it would only result in Marc making mischief with his mouth.

All right, perhaps that would be his primary reason.

“Use your teeth.”

A slow grin spread below, and Marc touched the tip of his tongue to his broken tooth.
