CHAPTER FOURTEEN
When Ty came back around, he looked over. Bright sunlight shown down around him, making it difficult for him to see anything. Pain filled him, and he winced against it, struggling with that pain, struggling with everything that he felt. Still, he was alive. He wasnât sure that he would have come back around after that explosion. It didnât seem possible.
âDonât go anywhere,â a voice said nearby.
âZara?â
A face appeared in his periphery, and Ty looked over, trying to make out Zara, but he couldnât see her. All he could see was what appeared to be wings and a glowing orange light, but he knew that had to be his imagination. He knew that Zara wouldnât reveal herself quite like that.
âWhat happened?â
âRest,â Zara said, patting Ty on the head.
Everything throbbed, including his head, his body, and distantly, he had a sense of the ground even throbbing, as if there was some part of the steam fields that pulsated with energy, power, and pressure that pressed up against him and radiating deep beneath him, as if it were longing for release.
Ty didnât dare stay here any longer than necessary if the steam fields were going to explode. He needed to get moving; he needed to ensure that they werenât in any danger if the steam fields were to erupt.
He started to get up. He still couldnât see anything. The bright lights around him were too much for him to make out anything.
âTy?â
He recognized Albionâs voice and felt a hand running along his arm, on his back, and then helping him to sit.
âWhat happened?â Ty said to him, turning to him. He was black haze of energy, and he could make out just the outline of his features, but not much more than that.
What had happened?
âYou need to take it easy,â Albion said. âYou were nearly killed.â
âThatâs because of Zara,â he said.
âZara wouldnât have done that to you.â
âNo. Zara wouldnât have done that to me,â Ty muttered.
Lothinal had attacked. Ty did not know if Gayal had perished before they had attacked or if Lothinal had simply sent more at them. They were more powerful than the other Tecal had known, and regardless of what Gayal and Dorian believed about the Dragon Touched, they had to be involved. It would mean the numbers of Lothinal attackers were far greater than they had ever known.
Somehow, Roson James and the others must have decided to target this temple and the steam fields once Ty had restored it. Did they think that they could corrupt this potential and this connection to the Flame?
Perhaps they could. Ty didnât know if there was anything that he would be able to do if they continued to attempt that. The only reason he was alive was because Zara had cradled him with her wings, protecting him.
âLothinal attacked. Andâ¦â He wasnât exactly sure how to describe what happened.
âI saw.â
Ty breathed out. âYour priests?â
âMartha is gone,â Albion said, his voice falling into a whisper. âThe High Priest of this temple as well. There were a few other priests here, but we found no remains.
