The staff at the command room of the Japanese branch of Raimat International were reporting the situation in a frenzy.

“Lakhitov squad has located the Kushinada and her companion.”

“We’ve sent all squads her location. I will bring up a city map.”

A bird’s-eye view of the city was displayed on the large monitors at the center of the room. It was a real-time feed of the 23 Wards from a drone flying eighteen kilometers in the air.

“Good thing the Moujuu don’t notice drones flying in the stratosphere.” Count Hector Raimat chuckled as he observed the images from where he sat in the base commander’s seat.

The 23 Wards were a no-fly zone due to Moujuu attacks, but the drone at such high altitude had experienced no problems so far. Emphasis on these last two words, since a Moujuu with attack methods equal to a surface-to-air missile could very well appear in the future.

“Indeed. This is the maximum resolution image we could get, but I believe it is enough to guide our troops.” A voice suddenly sounded from behind the count.

A young man clad in a gaudy uniform was just entering the command room. RMS Commander Firman La Hire.

“You’re back, Major. How’s your new arm doing?” The count glanced at Firman’s right arm.

The hand peeking out from his uniform’s sleeve was made of steel now.

“It is doing well. As we expected from the development of the Mod-3.” Firman raised his artificial arm up to his eyes.

He had lost his right arm in combat against Yahiro Narusawa. A Fafnir soldier’s healing ability wasn’t enough to regenerate a lost limb.

Said healing abilities did close the wound immediately, however, which in turn made it impossible to reattach an organic arm. It was yet again the Fafnir soldier’s power, though, that made his body conform to the new artificial arm in a matter of hours.

Firman’s artificial arm, built for his draconized state, was twice as big as a regular human’s. His grip strength exceeded two hundred kilograms, and his fingers were hard enough to pierce a bulletproof vehicle’s armor.

“Good. Excellent,” the count muttered, uninterested, before turning back to the monitor.

The drone above the 23 Wards was looking at the Chuo Ward and its surroundings. Or rather, the place that used to be the Chuo Ward.

There was no land where there once was, in a section of what used to be Chuo, Chiyoda, Minato, and Koto. In its place was only darkness. A giant bottomless pit right in the middle of Tokyo.

It was nearly three kilometers in diameter. The hole was covered in pitch-black miasma, through which not even state-of-the-art reconnaissance satellites could look. Not even echo-sounding or pulsed lasers worked.

The only thing anyone knew about it was that Moujuu came from there. It was their portal to the human world.

“The Ploutonion… It is incredible, no matter how many times I see it,” the count muttered in awe.

The Ploutonion was the name for the hole at the 23 Wards’ center.

“That hole is the scar of the Hollow Regalia?”

There was surprise in Firman’s tone.
