Chapter 9

Savannah reached for a spray bottle and rag and walked back to the floor. As she wiped off the tables, her eyes kept shifting to the clock on the wall above the door. She had less than an hour left of her shift, and already her body was sizzling with anticipation. Cooper arrived after she made it to her apartment, changed her clothes, and showered. She wanted to be ready—freshly showered with the perfume Cooper had bought her, dabbed behind her earlobes and at her wrist. Savanah always made sure to wear just as little as possible because they knew his shirt and tie were coming off when he stepped through that door, followed by his slacks. He would close the distance between them, and she would be up in his arms with her legs wrapped around his waist.

It had been a week since she had arrived at his club, and what a week it had been. Savannah couldn’t remember when she had been this happy. She had a job and was, for once, earning her own money. Savannah shared the pain of watching her mother die and having a huge hole in her heart that she knew Cooper understood. He held her in his arms, made her feel safe, and showered her with hugs and kisses.

Cooper made her feel things she thought were fairy tales, and now she knew they were real. Cooper was like her knight in shining armor, a protector and hero. There was also a dark side to him that she found attractive. He would mentally slip away into the unknown. But Savannah discovered the slightest touch of her hand always seemed to soften his expression and bring him back to her. Everything about her yearned for him. At bedtime, he held her tight, and she couldn't think of anything other than the comfort she felt in his arms. This was a type of peace and serenity once foreign to her. Now she loved everything that was her and Cooper.

You’re mine.

Every time he said those words, she believed it. Her heart belonged to him. When she started to think she was falling
