Retracing your steps in the rainforest is easier said than done.

We seemed to be walking in circles, and I was close to giving up.

I knew that Jayce and Colt would get out of that situation, and I also knew if anyone would get us out of this jungle of terrors, then it would be them.

Colt was smart, and Jayce was strong, even if he was a little unlucky. As well as annoying.

They were almost the perfect duo for this fucked up situation.

The thing was, was that we could have done with the both of them right now. I had a poor sense of direction, and all Sommar had was her magician's hat of a purse.

The four of us needed to work together in order to get out of here. It was the only way.

She was right.

We needed to find them and work together.

I needed to be a better friend and find them. I wasn't quite sure how we were going to do that, but we were going to give it our best shot.

No matter what, though, we would try. If there was one thing that I wanted to prove to Sommar, it was my ability to change. To be better than I had been when her brother had been made an example of by the local authorities.

The same authorities who hated that Dartmouth would never admit to them half of the shit that happened on campus.

When you have a dead body from an accidental drug overdose, though. They could not hide that from the local police department, and they, in turn, hit Isaiah Knight with everything they actually could. It was a miracle that he only served the five years inside that he had.

If they would have had their way, I would have been positive they would have been aiming for a life sentence. Or maybe even worse than that.

A violent clap of thunder sounded before the heavens opened, and rain poured down onto us, soaking through our dirty clothes within seconds.

As it pooled around our feet, it was beginning to make it impossible to walk.

"Sommar," I tugged on the back of her shirt, "We should stop for a minute. It's raining too hard."

Looking up at the rain, she begrudgingly nodded in agreement, sliding against a tree to get some shelter under a thicker part of the canopy above us; she smiled.

"I hope they're alright out there," she sighed. Holding the Grand Canyon of a purse against her chest.

I was amazed after everything that she had still somehow managed to keep a hold of the thing.

Although with how tightly I usually saw her clutching it, I could imagine it would be a struggle even if she was unconscious to free it from her grip.

"They'll be fine," although we should have found our way back to the camp we had set up by now. Which made me wonder if the ones who had been out there, shooting, had found it and taken everything for themselves.

If that was the case, we might never find where we had been again.
