Chapter 11

Breezing around my kitchen a week after my and Joseph’s relationship started, I went through the motions of making dinner. Ranger hovered near the kitchen entrance, hoping I’ll drop something, and I patted his head with a snort.

“You just keep hoping.”

At least he finally stopped sulking. After I spent the night at Joseph’s house the first time, he’d been downright moody. He hated it when I wasn’t there and when I’d said as much to Joseph, he’d offered to come over to my house next time.

Which led to now. Joseph should be off work soon–we’d planned it on a day I was off even earlier than he was–and then we could eat and do whatever sounded good. He’d mentioned a movie night, so maybe that.

If he were any other guy, I’d assume ‘movie night’ was code for sex, but when he said movie night, without a doubt, he actually meant it.

For one, he didn’t need to have a code for sex, if we wanted to we’d just do it. For two, while our intimate lives were on fire at the moment, he hadn’t let the romantic aspect fade either.

Sneaking a glance at the flowers he’d gotten me, my favorite kind, I let a tiny little smile curl my lips. I hadn’t even realized he’d known which kinds I’d liked until he dropped a vase of them off with a sheepish smile.

They now sat proudly in the middle of my table, something I could look at whenever I ate or sat. Trailing a hand over the soft petals, I sighed.

“I was right, he’s so dangerous to me.”

And this was only the start of it. A jitter of nerves threatened to rise at that, but I slapped it down. Yes, things were serious between us, but I knew that would happen the second I decided to try it out with him.

He wouldn’t hurt me, he was too him for that. I’d repeat that as many times as I needed to until it stuck.

As if hearing my thoughts, the familiar knock rang out and Ranger abandoned his post to run for the door. Following at a slightly calmer pace, I chuckled at the sight of him vibrating with excitement.

“Calm down, boy. He’ll be inside in a second, and you can clean his ears out like usual.” I said, wrestling through the furry menace to get to the door.

It was hilarious, watching Ranger interact with Joseph. The man took it like a champ, to my amusement. Opening the door, I took in Joseph with a smile.

He’d gone with a plain jeans and t-shirt combo today, a smattering of flour on his black shirt from work that he’d tried to rub off by the looks of it. His hair was freshly combed and when he saw me, a smile tugged his lips.

“How was your day at work?” He asked and I pulled him inside, sliding into his arms as if it were the easiest thing in the world.

“Fine, Ashley and I had the same schedule, so we wound up chatting while working.
