Consciousness begins to creep its way back in, hand-in-hand with a throbbing pain in my skull. My eyelids peel open, unfamiliar sights flooding my vision. I’m in a nearly empty white room, save for a table against the far wall covered in strange tools and devices. My arms and legs are strapped to the chair where I’m seated, restrained with reinforced steel manacles that prevent me from moving even the slightest bit. My armor is gone, and damnit I feel naked without it. What has me perplexed though, is the view in the nearby window.

Just beyond several inches of glass is an empty void of blackness sprinkled with the glimmer of distant stars. Space… I’m in fucking space. I can see something cresting the edge of my view, but I’m unable to make it out. I strain my neck to see just a little bit further out the window… and there it is. Floating in the vastness of space is a planet covered in massive cityscapes and surrounded by unforgiving wastelands. It’s an ugly place, especially from up here… but it’s my home. Terrax Prime.

I sit back in my chair as the pain in my neck becomes unbearable. This just doesn’t make sense… I couldn’t have been out for long, even after that close-range EMP blast. How the hell did Godfreid manage to get me off-planet so quickly? And, more importantly, why was I still alive?

Suddenly, the door on the far side of the room swings open and a strange little man walks in. Wearing a long, white lab coat that sways with each step, the man hobbles nervously into the room as if every step he takes is burdened by trepidation. His round little face is covered in spectacles that look more like goggles, and his mouth is twisted into a strange, nervous little grin. I’ve never laid eyes on this man before, and I really wish I hadn’t now… the way he’s eyeing the assortment of medical tools on the table is rather unsettling.

“I see you’re awake now. That’s goood… very good.” His voice is even worse, soft in only the creepiest of ways and conniving.

“What the hell’s going on?” I ask as I quietly struggle to free one of my hands from its restraint. Unfortunately, I’m going nowhere fast. “Why am I off-planet?”

The man lets out a giggle. “Oh, don’t be silly, Mister Grant. You must’ve figured out where you are by now… Why, you’re in the Hellspire.”

Damnit, just as I feared. The Hellspire is a massive floating prison located just inside Prime’s orbit. It was built as a way to isolate villains and other dangerous supers from the rest of the population, a space station made with the sole purpose of lifelong incarceration. The Prime government’s philosophy was simple… throw the villains in orbit and you never have to worry about them again. Plus, you get the added benefit of appearing ‘humane’ by not outright killing them all.

It’s strange to actually be in the spire after seeing the long, tower-like structure pass through the skies of Prime so many times.
