Chapter Seven

Jack

I roll over in my bed late in the morning. I haven’t slept this long in ages and my body actually feels rested.

More than that, I’m happy and content. Lazily, I reach for Justice, the source of my happiness and contentment. I woke her up about every two hours to check her for symptoms of a concussion.

Even though I wanted to have my way with her again each time, I refrained. It killed me that she was hurting because of me.

The sheets are cold and somehow in my gut, I already know she’s gone. Still, I get up from bed and pull on some pants. I search the house, calling her name.

But it’s useless. She’s not here.

My SUV is still in the drive, so I call Dean and ask about Justice. He only confirms what I already figured. He picked her up and drove her to get her car early this morning.

After a quick shower, I race into town to my sister’s shop. She’s with Cash on her honeymoon in the Ozarks. But Justice agreed to keep the store open in her absence and it’s a good thing too. I need to see this woman, need to have her in my arms again.

“You’re not fucking her again already,” I remind myself as I pull into the parking lot. Except something’s wrong. Because the place is empty, and the lights are off.

A couple of calls later and I know where Justice lives. But she’s not there either.

Her landlord, old man Teller, gives me a frown. “She just up and left. I tried to give her the cash for the rest of her lease, but she told me that wasn’t right. Said she wouldn’t be back.”

My heart sinks as my worst fears are confirmed. Justice really was on the run. The only problem is I don’t know what she was running from or how the fuck to find her and protect her.
