“You did what!?” Christen shook her head and moved the lettuce around her plate, her mouth and eyes wide open.

“I kissed Diana Davis.” Taylor bit into her sandwich casually, trying her best to seem unfazed, but she was anxious. This whole situation with Diana was confusing for her, and she needed her best friend to help her wrap her head around it.

“So, you mean Diana is a lesbian?” Christen couldn’t believe it, as the reality of Taylor’s words sank in. “You sure? I would never have guessed.”

“Well, I don’t know if she is a lesbian, but she is most certainly on the queer side of straight at the very least.”

Christen’s eyes continued to widen in disbelief as Taylor recounted their past two experiences. It sounded more like an episode of Days of our Lives than her friend’s real-life. What she didn’t know was that even then, Taylor was trying her best to be discreet and keeping the juiciest details to herself.

“And you say she kissed you?” Placing such a firm emphasis on who did what would have stung if Taylor had been any less self-confident.

Taylor twisted her face pretending to be offended before biting into her sandwich. “Hey! What’s wrong with me?”

“I don’t know, maybe the fact that you’re her lowly intern. Plus, I was expecting Diana’s tastes to be a little more lobster frittatas and less boxed mac and cheese, if you know what I mean.” She nudged Taylor playfully in the ribs.

Taylor continued to feign offense, opting to keep it light. “Ouch.”

Christen bit into her salad like it was the most delicious thing she had ever had in her whole life, speaking between tiny bites. “Avoid it all you want, but this is a bad idea.”

“I know, Chris, but it’s all over now. We agreed we wouldn’t do it again. Yes, we kissed a little and went out for a drink. But c’mon, she would never seriously go for someone like me. What would all the socialites of New York City say?”

Christen coughed, almost choking on her food. “You went out for drinks with Diana Davis?”

Taylor stared at her can of coke before taking a sip. She realized she had let out more than she intended to reveal. “It was after going to get the testimonies for the Wilburn case. It was a stressful day, and she said she needed a drink. So, I took her out to get one. Also, don’t talk with your mouth full. You dying on me right now is the last thing I need.”

Christen huffed and made a face at her. “How magnanimous of you.”

Taylor turned and stretched herself out onto the carpet. “No, seriously, she seemed like the day had her completely beat, so I just wanted to help make it better.”

The faraway look in Taylor’s eyes gave her away. Christen set her plate on the table in front of her and said, “Oh my goodness, you’re not falling for her, are you?”

Taylor sighed. “It’s not like that. I was just trying to be friendly.
