Any news on the bombing? I can’t find anything online except Bent Oak PD saying “no comment”

I searched the dark web, and as far as I can tell, no one took a hit out on Felix. So whoever made the bomb is the one who wants to kill him

CHAPTER 17

FELIX

MAY

Holy crap! Was this actually happening? I looked into Malcolm’s eyes. He appeared sincere. I felt… squirmy. I was getting everything I wanted handed to me, but I was so self-conscious about it I was afraid I was going to screw it all up. Exactly like I’d almost done earlier in the kitchen.

I’d been proud of the way I’d stood my ground and said I wanted a relationship, but I hadn’t been able to get the second part out—the part about who I wanted the relationship with.

I forced myself not to look away—but I really, really wanted to. “Um, okay,” I managed with a small smile.

Malcolm smiled too. He appeared relieved. “Okay? We can, what? Date?”

My disappointment must have been obvious because his expression turned concerned. “Not only date? You want to be exclusive? With me?” His voice became unusually high on the last word.

Answer, Felix, he needed an answer! “Um, I’d prefer it. If that’s alright with you.” Ugh, why was I so spineless?

Malcolm’s smile turned wry. “I’m pretty sure you’re going to regret this, but I’m good with being exclusive.” He put his hand over mine. I had to let go of my phone to link our fingers. Then Malcolm leaned in and gave me a soft, tender kiss. “I guess you’ve got yourself a boyfriend.”

I couldn’t stop the enormous grin that took over my entire face. Malcolm had probably never dated such a dork before, but I couldn’t help myself.

We reached for each other at the same time, meeting in a hot, deep kiss. I pulled back, about to ask Malcolm how his leg would handle me straddling his lap, when his phone rang.

Malcolm closed his eyes as if pained. “Let me see who it is.”

He dragged his phone out of his pocket and groaned. “It’s Brian. I’m sorry, but I need to talk to him.”

“It’s okay.” I sat back against the arm of the couch. “You want me to leave?”

Malcolm shook his head and answered the phone. “Hey, Brian.” He grabbed my hand and held it in his lap. I smiled and picked up my own phone. Was it too soon to text Steve and Cal my big news?

I didn’t think I could wait, so I opened my text thread with them and started typing with my left thumb. Ugh, this was going to take forever. I was a two-thumb typer. I’d find a gif to send instead.

While I searched, I listened absently to Malcolm telling his boss he could come into the office tomorrow if he was needed.

“Yeah, Felix is gonna hang out at the ranch all day and work on some of the animals here, so I don't need to escort him anywhere.
