Harry and Nikki met me in the hallway outside the interrogation room.

"You did great in there," Harry said. "See, you had nothing to worry about."

"We need a new suspect," I said. "He's not our guy."

"We need to make sure he's not before we let him go," Harry said. "The judge just came through with the warrant for his apartment. I put in a request for the mother's house, including the playhouse as well. Hopefully, we'll have that quicker than the other."

"Let's go," I said.

On the drive over, we discussed who else might be a suspect.

"We need to figure out who she'd been dating," I said. "Even if they're not responsible, they might have seen her the night before and have an idea of her mental condition."

"They might also know more about Julia and the Treasure Troupe members," Nikki added.

"Was the entire Treasure Troupe in California or just a few members?" I asked.

"From what I can tell, there were a few left behind. They've posted comments about how they wish they were with the others," Nikki said.

"That's a great place to start," I said.

"One problem—they live all over the world."

"That actually might be more of a help," I said. "If any of them live close, they'd be the ones we could narrow down on."

Nikki nodded as she pulled up her phone and scrolled through the Treasure Troupe's social media page. She was still going through it when we arrived at the apartment.

"I'll stay in the car," she said. "Let me know if you need my help."

The second we saw the wide-open apartment door, we knew it would be a pointless search. Even if we found something in there, someone else could have placed it there. Like a neighbor who wanted nothing more than this specific person to be kicked out of her apartment building.

We went inside, Harry first with his gun at the ready. Not only was there no one inside, there was nothing inside. Even the appliances had been removed. If Spencer put down a security deposit, he definitely would not get it back.

"Onto the mother's house?" I asked.

Harry re-holstered his gun and glanced at his phone. "Well, look at that. The judge got back to me more quickly. This time with that warrant. Let's go."

"That was quick," Nikki said when we got back to the car.

"The place had been emptied," Harry said. "Nothing left to look at."

"Any progress on the Treasure Troupe?" I asked.

"I found two people who live in Colorado—one on the Western Slope and the other in Colorado Springs. We could speak with them."

"Get their information, and we'll try to call them first," Harry said. "I'd rather not be driving all over the state to talk to possible suspects."

"I'll do one better," Nikki said, turning her phone toward Harry, then me. "There's a treasure-hunting convention this weekend in Denver. Both of them, plus a bunch of other Treasure Troupe members will be there."

"Maybe Julia will be too," I said.

"That might be harder to figure out," Nikki said. "But it's worth a shot.
