RULES FOR DOING WHAT YOU DON’T WANT TO DO WHEN YOU DON’T WANT TO DO IT, AND DOING IT AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL POSSIBLE!

.Don’t just formulate a goal. Actually commit to it. What does it look like to achieve it? Who do you know who’s done it? What’s the difference between them and you? Who can you ask for help to shorten the learning curve without skipping key steps? Decide on a definite date to begin, so you don’t stay in Formulation mode.

.Embrace the fact that the DOING is the hard part, but that the THINKING about doing it makes it much worse. One of Julie’s best music teachers said: “If you can’t imagine practicing today because it just seems so difficult, simply approach the piano, situate yourself on the bench, and play a few scales. Then see how you feel differently, for it is the starting that is the hard part!” Take a few simple steps at first, just to BEGIN.

.Commit to never giving up. This is simplest when you are following a schedule, just like you did in school. Back then, when the bell rang, you just switched from math to English. You didn’t try to negotiate with the teacher. Do what you don’t want to do when you don’t want to do it, even before you know how to do it at a high level. It’s okay to make mistakes. Winston Churchill said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without the loss of enthusiasm!” You cannot skip this stage, so remove that thought from your psyche.

.Keep showing up, keep asking questions, keep upgrading your skill, even if and when it’s painful, because at times it will be. The Concentration stage is what separates those who will thrive from those who will become yet another real estate failure statistic.

.Don’t fall prey to PSTS—Pretty Shiny Thing Syndrome—when you’re making consistent and bigger income. It’s easy to want to hit the easy button and buy your leads, try out Facebook ads, etc. Just say no.

.Assuming you persevere in Concentration mode, you will find Momentum. It can happen all of a sudden or gradually, but you will get there. When it happens, don’t allow your ego to run the show. It can be tempting to try to systematize yourself out of the hard work, but remember what it took to get there in the first place. You can’t just hire someone off the street to be YOU. You’re the one who’s earned Momentum, so embrace it!

.Be the best at what matters most, even when you’re busy, busy, busy! Lead generation, lead follow-up, prequalifying, presenting, negotiating, and closing will always be the core of your success. Don’t deviate.

.No, you can’t just hire a virtual assistant to prospect for you, to follow up on leads, and to basically do your job. The instances of that being successful are few and far between. Yes, you can hire a transaction coordinator, refer some buyer leads to trusted buyer’s agents, and have a personal assistant.
