In this modern era of readily available information, there are many resources that a customer can use to obtain a review of the particular product they are interested in; YouTube, reloading forums, product websites; there are plenty of places to find good information.
However, if you hang around a gun shop that sells reloading supplies, you’ll invariably hear those “real world” discussions; the ones that give the unsolicited good and bad points that we all want to hear. Rather than pick a press or two, and review them, I felt that a roundtable discussion of experiences – good and bad – and perhaps some helpful advice to avoid pitfalls and problems, would best serve those who have an interest in obtaining or better using a progressive press.
So, three friends sat down in what we call “The Parlor”, the Headquarters of the Handloaders Syndicate, among some progressive presses, and began to banter and pontificate, about the finer points of loading with a progressive press.
Mr. Jeff Koonz, proprietor of Coxsackie Gun & Bow, has been handloading his own ammunition for forty years, and has owned many progressive presses. His handloads have been used to train numerous new shooters.
Marty Groppi, whose work appears here, has been an avid collector of firearms and a handloader of the finest degree for decades. He shoots IDPA as well, and has spent more time behind the trigger of a 1911 than anyone else I know.
And me? As the President of Massaro Ballistic Laboratories and a handloading junkie, I’ve had the opportunity to use and experiment with many different pieces of gear, from many different manufacturers, and while I don’t participate in the gun games, I do produce quite an amount of handgun ammunition for those that do.
