The weather had turned cooler, and it was windy today. Fall weather was my favorite, as long as it didn’t rain. Judging by the dark clouds in the sky, I thought it just might do that today. I brushed my hair back behind my ear when we got out of the car at the car dealership, and glanced up at the sky again as gray clouds gathered overhead. “I wonder if it’s going to rain tonight?”

“We’re due for some rain,” Christy said, as we wandered over to look at a new car. It was a sedan, but it still managed to look sporty.

“Oh, I like that,” I said as I ran a finger along the side of the red car. My car was seven years old, and while it wasn’t ancient, it would be nice to have a new one. But Ethan and I had some financial goals we wanted to meet for the business as well as saving money for Charlie’s future, and a new car wasn’t in the plans right now.

Christy leaned over to look into the car. “I would love a new car. One of these days, I swear I’m going to get a fancy little sports car just for myself.”

“That would be a lot of fun.” I turned when I spotted a salesperson headed in our direction. It was Casey Graupman. “Right on time.”

Christy straightened up and turned to look. “So I see.”

Casey wore a red blazer and a black skirt with red pumps. Her short, curly red hair waved in the breeze. “Good afternoon! How are you ladies doing today? Oh wait, don’t you two own the candy store?”

I nodded. “We do. I’m Mia, and this is my sister, Christy. We’re doing great; we just thought we’d stop by and look at cars. You know, just to dream a little.”

She nodded, still smiling. “There’s nothing like taking a test drive in a new car, is there? Sometimes I do it just because I can.” She chuckled. “It’s the only way to get an idea of what kind of car you want.”

“That’s true.” I glanced back at the car we were standing in front of. “It gets good gas mileage.”

She nodded. “It sure does. Would you like to take it for a drive?”

I turned back to her. “No, we’re just looking right now.”

“We just want to see what’s out there so when we get ready to buy something, we’ll have an idea of what we want,” Christy said. “So, Casey, did you hear about the murder at the old graveyard? It’s all anyone is talking about.”

Casey sobered and nodded. “I did. I just can’t imagine anyone doing something like that. Ed Robinson was such a sweet man. He didn’t deserve to die like that.”

“Oh, were you a friend of Ed’s?” I asked.

She hesitated, then shook her head. “No, I can’t say that we were friends, but he bought a car from me recently. He was just such a nice person, very easy to talk to. It’s always nice having customers like that.
