Fig 6: Notes in the exact middle of a piano keyboard just above middle C

The notes on the staff and the place they appear on a piano keyboard. Back to "Mary Had a Little Lamb"; this is what the initial segment of that tune looks like on a music staff:

Above—and Below—the Staff

The basic staff portrays nine basic notes, which are five on the lines and four in the spaces. But what of all the notes either above or beneath these nine notes—that was last notes in “Mary Had a Little Lamb”?

The Notes that are higher than the F at the highest point of the staff are written in the lines and spaces above the staff. For example, the principal space above the staff is the first note after F: G. The primary line above the staff is the main note after G: A. You can continue adding spaces and lines above the staff to depict increasingly elevated notes. Similarly, as you can add lines and spaces above the staff, you can also add lines and spaces beneath the staff to portray lower notes. For example, the main space beneath the staff is the first note before E: D. The mainline underneath the staff is the primary note before D: C. The accompanying figure shows the initial few notes underneath the standard staff. Coincidentally, the primary line beneath the staff is middle C.
