I paced the ornate floor of Aetherfall Manor, my mind racing. The HUD flashed warnings about nearby danger zones, each component’s location pulsing an angry red.

“Jack,” Willow’s soft voice cut through my thoughts. Her ivory wings rustled as she placed a hand on my arm. “We need to move quickly. JJ’s influence...”

“I know,” I growled, frustration bubbling up. “That smug bastard’s probably out there right now, twirling his metaphorical mustache.”

“Fuck,” I muttered, eyeing the notification. “Time’s not on our side, folks.”

Scarlett prowled closer, her pregnancy barely slowing her predatory grace. “So we split up. Hit all the targets at once.”

I shook my head. “Too risky. We don’t know what we’re walking into.”

“Since when has that stopped us?” Mina quipped, materializing from the shadows.

I couldn’t help but grin. “Fair point. But I’m not risking any of you. Not with JJ out there, and definitely not with two buns in the oven.”

Zrinka’s eyes widened. “Jack, you can’t possibly mean to go alone!”

The weight of leadership settled on my shoulders. I activated my pain absorption, feeling that familiar burn. “Someone’s gotta do it. Might as well be the guy who can take a beating.”

Willow’s grip tightened. “Jack, please. We’re stronger together.”

I looked at each of them – my weird, wonderful family. The clock was ticking, JJ’s influence growing. But splitting up felt wrong, dangerous.

“Alright,” I said finally. “We do this together. Fast and smart. But at the first sign of serious trouble, I’m pulling rank. Deal?”

A chorus of determined nods answered me.

“Let’s gear up,” I ordered, striding towards the armory. “We’ve got some magical groceries to snag.”

I strode towards the armory, my mind racing. The HUD flashed in my periphery, tracking our inventory and quest objectives.
