Slimes are the result of magical forces coming into contact. They do not have much in mental capacity, usually just waiting for or wandering aimlessly for prey. This abomination has somehow managed to evolve past the base instincts of its predecessors.
Just as Grim gathered that information, the slimeâs tentacle launched toward him. Quickly, as if on its own accord, his shield raised up to defend against the abomination. Grim looked at his own shield in surprise at his rapid response. Vumira and Consin hopped backward, then the whole group spread out to encircle the creature. Xumi fired two arrows in quick succession. The momentum of both shots stopped dead in their tracks, not bothering the abomination at all.
At the same time, Lukav threw a punch that was ineffective and resulted in his arm getting stuck in the creature. Freaking out at his predicament, the orc flailed the claws of his enchanted right arm, trying to free his arm.
The slime roared in pain at the claw attack, letting Lukav go. It turned its head and tentacle toward the creature that had hurt it.
Grim used the new distraction to quickly share some information he knew about slime monsters from his D&D experiences. He didnât know if it was accurate in this world, but it was worth a shot. âItâs resistant to most physical attacks and poison! It also can absorb things and probably has some sort of acid attack.â Then he tried to swing his greatsword at the slime, but it was notably unwieldly in his grip, and the attack was slow. When the sword made contact with the slimeâs body, it just stopped as if suddenly stuck in really hard molasses. The attack did no damage to the abomination, which was focused on reaching Lukav.
The large slime swung its tentacle at Lukav. The orcâs training with the monks and his new body had improved his dexterity enough that he was able to dodge three such attacks. Unfortunately, the abomination used the momentum from its third swing to continue the attack past Lukav. It swung the tentacle around the entire circumference of its body in an area-of-effect (AOE) attack. The creature hit Xumi in her chest, knocking her into a tree.
Grim was able to block the creature from advancing farther, though it still caused him to stumble back and lose his grip on his weapon that was still stuck in the abominationâs body. Both Vumira and Consin managed to retreat out of range of the attack.
âXumi!â Lukav exclaimed as he saw his beloved get knocked into a semiunconscious state.
The slime capitalized on his distraction and lashed its head toward Lukav like a snake, managing to clamp its teeth down on his upper left arm.
Lukav screamed in pain while writhing and flexing against the bite to prevent the creature from tearing through him.
âVumira!â Grim said as he unsheathed Dariaâs Dagger. âLetâs use our enchanted weapons! The magic inside them should be able to damage the creature.
