As I grab the clipboard

and write down my name,

she frowns.

“What are you going

to share?

One of your pictures?”

I shake my head.

“Something else.”

We sit down,

Noelle shuffling in her seat

until they call for

Selah Godfrey.

I go up to the mic,

pull out my poem-notebook,

close my eyes, pretend

I’m in the perfect dark,

and start reading:

I know I’m the weird girl.

I don’t like to look you in the eye.

I wish I could wear a sign that says:

“Please Don’t Touch Me.”
