Spaying or neutering has many health benefits to your dog (and to you!). Keep the following points in mind:

Spayed females at any age have a reduced risk of breast cancer, cystic endometrial pyometra, false pregnancies, mastitis, venereal sarcoma, ovarian and uterine tumors, cystic ovaries, chronic endometriosis, vaginal prolapse, and uterine torsion or uterine prolapse.

Neutered males have a reduced risk of testicular cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, acute prostatic abscess, tumors around the anus, infection of the testicles, anal hernias, and venereal tumors. A neutered male will also hang closer to home and not become macho with other male visitors.
