Chapter Twenty-Three

“So if you will place your hand on the Portal stone with Mira and me, I will bring you to my Realm. Well, I guess your Realm really,” Mutmaha says with a hearty laugh. Yep, I like this guy.

“You are not going without me again,” Prithar says, walking through the door.

Looking over, I see the big lion looking at me with anger. “Wouldn’t think of it?” I tell him hesitantly, my statement coming out more likes a question.

“That’s what I thought,” he says smugly.

“It talks!” Mutmaha exclaims.

“Of course it talks!” screams Mira, running over and hugging the enormous lion. “This is Prithar. He is so cuddly to sleep with. Can we bring him Jason?” she says, looking at me with big doe eyes.

“Well, sure. And he talks when he wants to,” I say to Mutmaha. “Honestly, he mostly talks in my head.”

“That’s because it’s a pain to make these sounds you speak,” he growls.

“Can’t blame you,” Mutmaha says. “When I am in my Dragon form, it’s a royal pain to sound out some of the words these two-legged Races spout. Most of us use mind speech.”

“Exactly,” Prithar says, looking at me particularly.

“What? I was born with,” I start, but then stop. “Fine, I wasn’t born talking, but it’s how I communicate. I don’t come from a Realm where mind speech or telepathic speech is normal.”

“Odd,” Prithar says, shaking his head.

“Isn’t it?” Mutmaha agrees with him sadly.

I glare at Prithar, but then I hear a giggle. Looking over, I see Mira, who had moved away from Prithar, trying to hold in her laughter with both hands over her mouth. I look at Mutmaha quickly and I catch him grinning at me as well.

“Ah, funny,” I tell Prithar with a chuckle. “Fine, I won’t keep you here, but I am just going with Mutmaha to make sure that I have been to the Dragon Realm, so that I can Gate there and back to Destiny.”

“That’s fine,” he says. “Honestly, I am cooped up here. I am the only lion here, and all the kids think I am a plaything.”

“Oh, hush you,” Mira says, running up to him and hugging him hard again. “You love it. The kids all call you Soft Kitty,” she says.

Sighing, he says, “True, but I need to run. I need space. I need a break. I am not used to it. I lived in the caves for a long time and never had someone pet me. I am a proud lion,” he says, puffing up his chest. “I need to hunt.”

“Fine,” I tell him with a laugh. “You can come, but I won’t be there very long.”

“Good,” he says, getting up quickly and almost knocking over Mira, who had still been hugging him. I can practically hear the smile in his voice. “Let’s go!”

Turning to Mutmaha, who still has a big grin on his face, I say, “Shall we? How do we do it with a lion in tow?” I ask, pointing my thumb over my shoulder at Prithar.
