Chapter Nine

Angelo couldn't keep the Book. Leaving the grimoire in his closet was dangerous enough. This was a whole other matter entirely.

His thoughts were spinning, racing all over the place. If Bromley had killed Wes, wouldn't he have tried to take the Book? The safe hadn't seemed to have been touched. But if Bromley hadn't been involved, how did he know? Did he watch? Did he just stand there and watch Wes get torn apart?

Angelo dropped to his knees on the sidewalk, letting the Book fall beside him. Pain shot through his legs, only just drowned out by the pain in his chest. Life wasn't fair, he knew that, but this was just cruelty for the sake of cruelty. Could he even make Bromley pay? Every time he tried, he only ended up getting hurt. And now, Wes was dead because of it. All that work had been for nothing because Wes was dead and Bromley had probably absorbed his soul to make himself more powerful. The thought made Angelo ball his hands into fists. He had to make Bromley pay. He would kill Bromley if it was the last thing he did.
