CHAPTER SEVEN

Chloe

I was driving myself insane sitting around the house all day, so when one of my fellow teachers, Winna, called and asked if I was up for a girl’s night, I said yes without hesitation. Anything to get out of the apartment and away from the thoughts of Feng or Fury, as I actually prefer to think of him.

He showed me some of that fury he’s named for on the night of the Christmas party, but I think he’s still in a calm and steady state when it comes to me. Can’t wait until he’s not anymore. Just thinking about that makes me blush.

“Ooo, you brought Chianti,” Winna says as she opens her door for me and spots the two bottles of red wine in my hands.

She opens the door wider to let me in, and I head straight for the alcove kitchen, where the little round table is already covered by takeout menus of all shapes and sizes.

“I know Chianti’s your favorite,” I tell her as I place the bottles beside the menus and pick up the topmost one. “So, you’re thinking Mexican for tonight?”

She brings over a couple of large wine glasses and a bottle opener in one hand and her phone in the other. “I was thinking tacos, yes,” she says. “But do they go with red wine?”

I grin at her over my shoulder. “Tacos go with everything.”

She grins, too, and places the call while I struggle to open the first bottle of wine. Feng would have no trouble with this task, I’m sure. And I’m already picturing the way his muscled arms would tense and coil as he slowly pulls out the cork.

“Are you blushing?” Winna asks, peering at my face with a huge grin on her face.

“It’s just from the effort of opening this bottle,” I tell her, hardly able to keep a straight face.

But I can’t very well tell her the truth, not when the truth is that I just got totally turned on by imagining my boyfriend opening a bottle of wine.

She grins knowingly anyway while I pour generous servings of wine into the glasses she’s holding out.

We move over to the white leather sofa, which takes up most of her small and cozy living room, and that knowing grin is still on her face as she looks at me.

“It’s a guy, isn’t it?” she says.

And I can’t deny it anymore. Mostly because all I do is think of Feng and all I want to do is talk about him.

“Yes, I met someone,” I tell her. “He’s not like any of the guys I’ve dated so far, and I’m having a little trouble not thinking about him all the time. Basically, I’m acting like a teenage girl.”

She smiles wistfully. “I wish I met someone that made me feel that way again.”

Winna is very pretty, with bright blue eyes and long, wavy brown hair, but I’m not surprised she’s having trouble finding the right man for her because she’s a total sweetheart.

“You will,” I assure her.
