Chapter 7
Finally, she was in his bed where she belonged. As good as the marathon sex had been in Chicago, fucking her in the corner of their bedroom for the first time after disciplining her had been so much more satisfying. Sheâd responded beautifully to both his discipline and his domination. Her response to being mounted had been the stuff of dreams. He didnât kid himself that bringing her to heel would be a cakewalk because it wouldnât be. But Whitney, whether she liked it or not, was naturally submissive⦠at least to him.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, he rumbled soothingly to her and stroked her back until her breathing deepened and he could tell she was fast asleep. He left her prone form and went to his desk in the other corner of the room. In the past, heâd rarely used it, but he smiled thinking of doing some of his work up here with Whitney sitting naked at his feet or resting in their bed. And she would definitely need the rest. He planned to avail himself of his mateâs luscious charms on a frequent basis.
He worked on paperwork for the vineyard until a soft knock interrupted his concentration.
âCome,â he said softly.
Ian poked his head in. âIs it done?â
âNo, but it will be.â Jameson was in a particularly magnanimous mood but knew that his brother would expect something of a chiding tone. âI could ask the same of you.â
âI donât know what youâre talking about,â said Ian, uneasily stepping into the room and closing the door behind him.
âYou and Laura. You expect me to claim my mate who has no knowledge of our kind within a few hours of having her with me. And yet you and yours have been tap dancing around each other for close to a year.â Inspiration suddenly hit. âOh shit, is that why you wanted to know? Have you seriously been waiting for me?â
âIt would be the more traditional way to handle it. The alpha before his ranking pack members.â
Jameson rolled his eyes. âWhen has this pack ever done anything in the traditional way? For Godâs sake, Ian, claim your mate and be done with it. Look at it this way, if you wait until after the festival, Whitney can plan your bonding ceremony.â
Ianâs relieved grin was all Jameson needed to shake his head at his brotherâs foolishness. âHow long have you known?â
âFor a while now. You two have all the subtlety of a freight train. Did you honestly think any of us would mind?â
âLaura worried that she was the new she-woâgirl in town and first thing she does is hook up with your brother.â
âThey may all adore you, but not one of them has ever felt called to you, so claim the girl and get on with your lives. Whitney and I wonât be far behind you.â
âProviding you can get her to agree to take you and everything you come with on. Youâd better tell her before she finds out on her own.
