Chemo Namkha

Chemo Namkha was the older sister of Drom Depa Tönchung. The Drom family had five brothers — Lama Trogyal Yeshé, depa Śākya Gyal, depa Tönchung, Özer Dorjé, and another brother. Chemo Namkha was the oldest sibling. One day, all the brothers had the same dream: Many women appeared and asked them, “Won’t you please send your sister Namkha Yeshé to Drokmi Lotsāwa’s place with many material offerings? From there, she will reach Khecari and we will lead her to that place.”

Around that time, Chemo Namkha lost consciousness for three days. When she awoke, she recounted many holy deeds of Drokmi Lotsāwa. Her parents and other relatives were amazed. They gathered together many material offerings and sent her to Lachen Drokmi Lotsāwa.

At that time, Drokmi Lotsāwa was staying in Mangsang Cave in Namthang Karpo. While he was teaching the Dharma to his disciples, a young woman with many auspicious signs arrived and said to him, “I begged permission of my parents to be allowed to come to visit you.” Saying this, she offered an extremely valuable turquoise as well as many other material offerings. She begged him, “Please send me to Khecari.”

That very evening, Lachen Drokmi gave her and her friends the empowerment of Cakrasaṃvara, followed by instructions on closing the upper aperture. Immediately, Chemo Namkha was able to cause her air and mind to enter the central channel, and the signs that they had entered the channel became evident.

Chemo Namkha told her friends, “I have already had some indication that I will be able to immediately reach the Khecari realm. Please go back home and explain to my parents that I have had this experience.”

Drokmi Lotsāwa gave her Dharma teachings on Vajravārāhī, the creation stage of Vajrayoginī, and the completion stage of Avadhūti. As a supplement to this path, to promote the common attainments, he also taught her the practices of the female yakṣinī Padmapati, the controlling Kölpo Padaka, and the method of extracting the nutrition of great medicine.

Through practice of these instructions, she was able to control the yakṣas, and for a long time stayed in central Tibet in the area known as Shundrakrum Passage. There she built a little retreat cabin. When people came to the cabin, she would pull balls of tsampa dough and draughts of chang beer from space, and would distribute them to as many people as came. Later, she departed for the Khecari realm.
