Fuke had been having a spectacular time chasing the feather fairies, but they were far too fast for him and the game was getting dull. Instead, he pawed through the moss, checking the exposed portions of the dragon’s rough scales. He hoped to find a loose piece of the emerald-like scale, but so far, nothing would budge. After leaving the seventh glittering patch, he spotted something out of place.

Mitranee. What is she doing here? Sniffing around for danger, Fuke kept his eyes on the half-elf seated below one of the feathered trees. Is she doing her nature rest thing? He crept closer and noticed the feathered branches were draped over her head. Her face was very relaxed.

It doesn’t seem like she’s in any kind of trouble, but who knows what could happen while she sits like this. Fuke climbed up onto her crossed legs. I better stay to protect her from danger.

A frog croaked in the background, and Fuke scanned the woods for anything out of place.

As he thought about the day’s excitement, his eyelids began to grow heavy. They had done so much, and it was so warm here by Mitranee. He snuggled into a more comfortable spot. The dancing lights of the fireflies pulled his thoughts to drift away with them, and the lids closed over his black pearl eyes.

While Fuke dozed off, a pair of feather fairies flew close enough to land near Mitranee’s crossed legs. One of them flitted over and dropped down next to Fuke. Leaning in close, she dug under the corner of the chinner’s pouch flap to reach inside. Her partner had flown up and was now hanging from one of the wispy hemlock branches. With her task finished, the first fairy zipped over to the second and sprinkled a fine yellow powder over the branch. The bough lowered, its feathery ends draping over Fuke. Satisfied with their work, the two of them disappeared into the night.
