Chapter 20

Abel:

It’s been two fucking days. Two whole days since Cadence was taken from us and two days of finding absolutely nothing. I was able to track them from the freeway all the way to Colorado, but from there they just disappeared. I’ve contacted everyone I know to try and find her. I’m still waiting for a few more contacts to get back in touch with me, but the longer we go without answers the more distraught we become.

“They couldn’t have just disappeared!” Zade yells at Brooks, who is vibrating with anger.

“I fucking know that! But how the fuck are we supposed to find her?! Every time we think we find something it turns out to be a dead end!! Stars only know what that sick fuck has been doing to her!” Brooks shouts back. I shake my head and let out a heavy sigh, with each day that goes by, this only gets worse.

Just then my phone vibrates with an incoming call, and I look to see that one of my contacts from the school is calling. “Shut the fuck up so I can take this, you fucking idiots!” I’ve had enough of their bullshit to last a lifetime. We need to find our mate soon before we destroy each other.

“What have you found?” I ask as soon as the incoming call connects.

“I dug into Miss Valentine’s transfer records and found that before moving here to Washington she lived in Colorado with her stepfather, Steven. She missed four years of public school after her mom died in a car accident and she was switched to homeschooling. Her record lists her former address on it as well if you would like me to send it your way.”

Thank the fucking stars! “Yes! Send it over now!” I promptly end the call and turn back to the guys, who are watching me like hawks. This can’t be a coincidence. Triumph rings in my voice as I speak to them, “My contact was able to find her old address. Guess where she used to live.”

“Don’t play fucking games with us! Tell us now!” Remi growls at me in annoyance.

I sigh, “Colorado. Her and Steven used to live in fucking Colorado. My contact is sending over the information now.”

“Are you sure that’s where he took her? Why would he take her there?” Brooks looks at me with a sliver of hope in his eyes.

“I have a strong feeling that we’re finally on the right track.” I nod in reassurance. Every fiber of my being is certain that this is what we’ve been looking for. My phone buzzes with the address and I pull up the location on a live satellite feed for the guys and I to see. There, in the middle of the front yard, two men are facing each other, and it appears they are arguing about something.

“No fucking way. No! There’s NO fucking way...” Brooks shouts in outrage.

I’m not sure what he’s freaking out about, but as I zoom in closer to get a better look at the two men, I see the man who kidnapped Cadence along with.
