Chapter 7

Confrontation and Degradation

Mirage’s reaction to Jericho’s manor would be most accurately described as shock and awe. She squeezed his hand as she stood slack-jawed looking at the manor then back at him then back at the manor. She looked over her shoulder as if she was waiting for somebody to come out and declare it was all an elaborate joke.

“Come on,” Jericho smiled as he opened the front door. He pulled her inside and quickly pecked her on the lips. “Welcome home.”

“This isn’t real,” she insisted while looking around the massive entryway. “This is the size of a noble’s estate. Are you a noble?”

“No,” Jericho laughed before pausing. “Technically I’m a Marquis of Cila.”

“But this is Dayrose,” She said as Jericho guided her around the first floor. “Isn’t Cila the place with…”

“It is. And I have no intention of going back if I can help it,” Jericho grimaced at the thought of wandering around the nightmarish insectoid city. She reached out to touch a flower but stopped short. “You don’t have to be nervous. It’s your home too.”

“Jericho!” Jinx stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes shifted menacingly to Mirage and then back at him. “Another whore? Adulterer! Cheater!”

“Master!” Ariel approached rapidly from behind. Jericho let out a grunt as she wrapped her arms around his neck and hung there. She paused and stared at Mirage who quickly released Jericho’s hand. Ariel noticed the glowing emerald eyes and smiled, “You’re a shapeshifter!”

“Yes,” Mirage looked at Jericho somewhat embarrassed. “Nice to meet you I’m…”

“Shapeshifter?” Jinx clenched her teeth and fists. Her eyes darted back and forth between Mirage and Jericho wondering who she was angrier at before letting out a roar. “Listen here you shapeshifting slut! There is absolutely no transforming in bed! Jericho is not allowed to have everything he wants! He is a deviant! A pervert! A good for nothing lazy oafish mage! If you give him everything he wants he’ll get bored of us, and if he gets bored of us he’ll abandon us! So absolutely not shapeshifting! Do you understand? Deceiver! Liar!”

“Is that true?” Mirage grinned at Jericho knowingly. “You’ll get bored of us and abandon us?”

“No,” Ariel answered for Jericho. “Jinx is just a selfish, territorial, and paranoid beast. Our master would never abandon us!”

“That’s reassuring,” Mirage stifled a laugh. She looked back at Jinx and smiled happily. “Jinx is it? You’re so beautiful, I can’t imagine anybody getting bored of you. I’m Mirage, nice to meet you.”

“Flattery won’t work on me,” Jinx growled. “You’re here to replace me! Shapeshifters can’t be trusted! Slag! Tramp!”

“You said the same thing about fairies,” Jericho chuckled. “If it makes you feel any better Mirage already told me she prefers not to transform in the bedroom except for special occasions.”

“What kind of special occasions?” Jinx approached Mirage cautiously. “Anything can be a special occasion if you make it one. Trickster. Con.”

“Birthdays, holidays, vacations,” Mirage smiled sweetly while answering the question. “Is that going to be a problem?”

“No,” Jinx huffed while looking up and down Mirage’s curvaceous body.
