The journey by train to New York took two days, and it would be a nine day voyage to Liverpool. Margaret had been paid in cash for her articles over the last several months, and Alex hadn’t inquired about her income so she had plenty of money to cover her trip expenses. Prior to boarding the ship, Margaret telegraphed Anna that she would be traveling under an assumed name and that she could be reached in London at the Bentley Hotel where she would be staying for a few days. There was someone she wanted to visit before she departed for Dublin.

Once on the ship, Margaret spent her entire voyage hidden in her room which gave her time to think about her actions. Alex may have men looking for her; then again, there was the possibility that he may not. She decided she would take the risk and do what her heart was telling her to do, regardless of the outcome.
