Casey studied the boat Jed and Ryan had arrived at the island on, but she doubted if her legs were fast enough to reach the boat, her arms strong enough to crank the engine attached to the boat, and legs swift enough to carry her away into the ocean without being shot dead first. “No way,” Casey whispered, still hiding in the tree she had climbed up. “I’m staying right here.”

“Is that so?”

“What?” Casey nearly fell out of the tree she was hiding in. She managed to regain her balance just in time. Momma was standing at the bottom of the tree looking up at her—covered with what appeared to be mud and jungle vegetation. “Oh…it’s you. You…better go hide. There’s two armed—”

“Turkeys?” Momma asked, staring up at Casey, out of sight of the beach. “Gal, those two turkeys are currently incapacitated.” Michelle stepped out from behind a bush carrying Jed’s assault rifle. “Momma Peach don’t tell no lies, gal.”

“It’s true, Casey.” Nicole exploded out from a bush and hurried to the tree. “Michelle kicked some serious butt. Those two guys Jill Morris and Wanda Howard sent to kill us are out of commission.”

Casey could hardly believe her ears. Her eyes ran back to the boat on the beach. Oh, if only she could reach the boat and escape. But how? Michelle was holding a rifle and the yacht Jill and Wanda were housed on was still floating in the ocean.

“I’ll have to wait until it gets dark,” she whispered to herself. “I’ll have to get a rifle somehow…and kill everyone…and then I’ll escape.”

“Casey, please climb down,” Nicole yelled up at her cousin. “I…told Momma and Michelle about the conversation we had. They know about Jill Morris and Wanda Howard. They know you asked me to help you kill them.”

“You what?” Casey yelled. “Nicole…” Casey’s once beautiful face filled with rage. “You’re no longer my family, do you hear me? You betrayed me…you’re my enemy!”

“No, those two women standing out there on that yacht are your enemies,” Michelle yelled at Casey, unaware that Wanda wanted Casey alive—wanted her daughter. “If you want to live, you better do as we say.”

“That boat out there on that beach is rigged,” Momma Peach told Casey, tossing in a little false spice into her peach pie. “If we try to escape, those two women out there on that yacht will push a button and…boom! Yes sir and yes ma’am…boom!” Momma sounded so convincing that Casey drank down her every word without question. “The two turkeys we caught are real bad news, and they didn’t come to this island to play nice, gal. They done told us all sorts of poison stuff that’s enough to make a person’s skin dry up and fall off.”

It was Nicole’s time to play her part. She hated to deceive Casey, but it was the only way to protect her cousin. “Jill Morris and Wanda Howard want you dead, Casey. They poisoned the pilot. Also…”

Casey stared down at Nicole’s muddy face.
