The lottery ticket is a sacrifice, and our presidential campaigns and their attendant scandals and confessions are a ritualized purification-prior-to-slaughter, the impossible pomp and aggravated ceremony of presidential security revealing the buried truth that, mythologically, the candidate (without blemish) is being curried in order to be killed.
