Skiffs

Skiffs work well in both freshwater and saltwater applications, as they feature a center console, lightweight construction, and a relatively open floorplan (see Figure 10-4). But they are ideal for anglers fishing shallow coastal inland flats targeting tarpon or bonefish. For that application, some skiffs feature raised casting platforms and even observation decks where fishermen can spot cruising fish. A skiff is a good all-around choice for serious anglers fishing mostly calm water, although some do have raised sides for wave protection. Skiffs get their power from outboards, and those can range from 25 horsepower motors pushing 15 feet skiffs to giant outboards for 22 feet models.
