“No, she needs welfare.” The man hung up on Tamara. She couldn’t believe what she had just heard. Keisha and Pam saw Tamara and went where she was standing.

“What’s wrong” Keisha asked Tamara.

“Shaquanna’s family is unbelievable.” Tamara walked off in an upsetting manner.

“I wonder what they say.” Keisha said looking at Pam.

“It can’t be good. You saw how Mrs. Woodrow walked off. Her family is mean to her. I know I never told you this but I saw a man beating her in their backyard. I think it was her mom’s boyfriend. He probably beats her mom too. Oh man she got a baby. We got to get her some help.” Pam said while fidgeting in her pocket for her cigarettes.

“Come outside with me while I smoke.” Pam said while walking to the sliding doors. Keisha followed her.
