I always say that it’s necessary to ask: “Who’s going to know as a result of this research? Whom will this knowledge serve? With whom do I know? Against whom do I know? How do I know? What do I know? Why do I know? So we discover that these questions clarify an epistemology. You cannot think of doing research without thinking of this epistemology. There is a theory of knowledge implicit in all analysis, in each investigation. But there are many epistemologies, not just one: just as there are different kinds of knowing. (Torres, 1978a, p. 72)
