I packed his lunch knowing the entire time that it would be the last time. I remained calm and acted normal. He sat in the kitchen chair putting his shoes on and rambling on about something I don’t even remember. Working the second shift meant that he left for work around 1:00 PM and it was my job to make his lunch.

I packed his lunch. Sent him on his way. Watched his car drive off. Then, I retrieved my second cell phone from its hidden location in our bathroom and put my plan into action.

In less than 1 hour, I would have my Chevy Traverse filled to the roof with my belongings, 3 kids, Great Pyrenees and cat. I would stop at the end of our gravel driveway, take one last look at our beautiful home that I grew to hate and take a right onto the highway on my way back to Kentucky.

He didn’t know it, but the divorce papers were already signed.
