Missing

Vira’s eyes fluttered as soon as she had woken up from the light of the morning cracking through her eyelids.

A smile had stayed on her face from the night prior. But she opened her eyes, and Cassius was, in fact, not in the same place she had last seen him. He was nowhere to be seen at all.

She shot up out of her bed and slid on her heels. She pulled a random ball gown dress from her closet and worked it over her head to put it on the rest of her body.

Her feelings for Cassius were solidified; they could not be undone. Losing him one way or another would ultimately shatter her life, leaving her to live a long, depressing episode for the rest of time.

Something seemed off about him leaving, though. If she knew anything about him by now, it would be that, as much smack talk as he gave her, the more he didn’t mean it, and the more it really meant he actually wanted her, like he had mentioned the night prior.

Vira would much rather have preferred him to be her first sighing as she awoke, but for one reason or another, he had other plans.

Naturally, she wondered if the night prior was all a dream from her feelings after she finished the painting. But it was so lively, it seemed impossible.

Vira left her room on the search to at least find him. The first place she’d look was the back door where he’d normally pretend to guard to avoid interaction.

She strolled casually through the halls, but made a point to walk at a rather fast pace, eager to find him. She stopped at the back door and looked around frantically. He was nowhere to be seen. A burning feeling started in her chest. It was half worry and half anger. He told her he would be there when she woke up. Something could have either happened to him, or he could have betrayed her.

So Vira headed towards the guards’ bunk rooms. She had hoped as she made her way through the crowd that it hadn’t seemed apparent that she was looking for someone or up to something.

Once she made her way through the halls, yet again passing through the group of crowded people, she still hadn’t seen him when she poked her head into the guard’s bunk room.

Cassius was nowhere to be seen at this point, and she wondered if she’d see him come around at some point in the day. So she decided to walk the halls around the palace several times. Surely she’d see him somewhere and surely she was just over reacting. There was no way he had gotten caught, or else everyone would have known it by now, and she’d be the first one to know.
