“Then he’s all like, ‘Let’s table this and circle back next week.’ Next week? Can you believe it? Then I said…”

Kenta half listened as his client rattled on about office politics.

Ten minutes until Iroha would arrive. Kenta could last for ten minutes. He’d lasted fifteen days without seeing Iroha. Ten minutes would be nothing.

The soft music in the Onyx Lounge slowed time. Kenta couldn’t even get lost in the beat like he’d done with his other clients in the Gold Room. So ten minutes could’ve been ten days, but time did pass. Especially when visions of Iroha stripping off clothes danced in Kenta’s head.

“I need to get going,” Kenta said. “I’ll see you soon?”

The client tapped his empty wine glass. “Things are getting hectic at the office. It might be a while.”

“Don’t keep me waiting too long.” Kenta winked. “I want to hear what you told your boss.”

The client’s brow rose.

Kenta’s stomach flopped and with so much alcohol inside that it had flooded his thoughts. He must’ve missed the story when he hadn’t been listening. Damn it. It would make the third time he’d screwed up with a client today. He knew better than to get distracted, but anytime the conversation lulled, he’d think of Iroha’s breath tickling his neck as he whispered all manner of naughty things they’d do together.

Kenta’s client said goodbye, and after a stop to the restroom, Kenta plopped on the sofa in the back. He clutched the plush cushion. If he couldn’t stay focused on work with his other clients, how would he be able to keep himself focused with Iroha right there?

Kenta couldn’t get distracted by Iroha’s collarbones, how his glasses perfectly framed his bright eyes, and especially not how the lollipops he sucked made Kenta think of his dick between those stained lips. Kenta had to pull himself together and sell drinks or else not even Iroha’s smile could help him forget about the trouble his parents had gotten themselves into.

Black wing tip shoes approached. Kenta didn’t need to look up to know they belonged to Subaru. Kenta stood and tried not to meet Subaru’s gaze.

“Iroha’s here? What room?” Kenta asked.

“I want you to come with me first.” Subaru’s firm tone sent Kenta gulping.

Talking with Subaru never ended well. He’d already given Kenta a strike against him for being late the other day. With only two left before he got fired, he couldn’t afford it if a client had complained about the lack of his attentiveness. Kenta gnawed on his lower lip. Everyone had off days. Today was his.

He followed Subaru to the little hallway in front of his office.

“I wanted to give you a pep talk before you head out there.” Subaru smiled, but it didn’t calm Kenta’s nerves.

“I’ll be fine,” Kenta said. “Last week I was back to my usual spot. You don’t have to worry about me.”

“Do you want me to pull up your day’s sales average? If Iroha buys the same amount as his last two visits, you’re not getting a bonus tomorrow.
