28. Lauren

Lauren woke to the gentle stroking of her hair. She struggled to open her eyes and found Kelsey dressed sitting next to her on her bed.

“Morning.”

Kelsey smiled. “Morning.”

“Why are you dressed?”

“I have an early meeting I forgot about. I'd rather stay here with you, but I can't miss it.”

“It's okay, I understand.”

“I had a great time last night.”

Lauren blushed. “Me too.”

“Maybe we can do that again soon.”

“You mean you like making out like teenagers?”

“I like doing anything with you, but yes. I'd like to make out more.”

Kelsey's phone vibrated. “Sorry. My day has already started. I've got to go, or I'll be late.”

She leaned over and kissed Lauren's forehead.

“Wait,” Lauren said. “Um, I just need to know. Are you okay with waiting?”

Blood rushed to Lauren's cheeks. Kelsey had spent the night in Lauren's pajamas, but they hadn't had sex. As soon as their kisses got passionate, Lauren pulled away. Kelsey acted like it didn't matter, but Lauren had doubts. Part of her worried Kelsey would grow tired of waiting to sleep with her and leave her after a couple of weeks of dating.

“Are you serious? Of course I am. I've not had sex for months because one night stands are not my thing. I can wait a few more months if that's what we need to do.”

Lauren released the breath she'd been holding. “Thanks for saying that.”

“It's the truth. So don't waste another minute thinking about it. I have to go, but I'll call you later.”

She leaned down and kissed Lauren once more, before heading out.

Lauren rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling. She found Kelsey's kindness overwhelming. In the past, Lauren would accept this level of consideration without a second thought, but her guilt over her feelings for Eden bothered her a lot more than it should have. Lauren's feelings for Kelsey grew, but her feelings for Eden refused to budge. Lauren didn't know what else to do. She'd decided that waiting it out would help but a few weeks in and things hadn't changed. She wondered if she should confide in Kelsey.

No. That's a bad idea. Even someone as perfect as Kelsey would draw the line at being a rebound.

Lauren hated to think of Kelsey as a rebound, and felt guilty for using her in this way, but what other alternatives did she have? Stay single forever? No. Lauren wanted a future. She wanted a wife and maybe even a kid. She refused to allow a few stubborn feelings to get in the way of that. Lauren liked Kelsey, and she found herself looking forward to spending time with her more and more. It seemed like it would take a little longer than she hoped, but Lauren knew she'd soon be ready to share everything in Kelsey. In the meantime, she would focus on the positive.

Lauren got up and did her usual stretch routine. When she turned around, she saw the pajamas she'd given Kelsey folded on top of the left side of the bed. Lauren smiled at her thoughtfulness and picked the clothes up.
