Chapter Seven

Dinner was finished, and it was the eight of us again who remained at the table. Mina wasn’t mad at me anymore, and her father had reversed that part of her programming.

Eito said, “I believe the plan will work, if we can hold him in the lab for ten to fifteen seconds after he stabs you. If he detects what I’m attempting, he can just teleport out, or delay it if he fights it. It’s only something that can be done in the laboratory. Part of the security precautions so he can’t be hacked by an enemy.”

I nodded, “Well, once younger Mina disappears into the past, I’ll stand back up and Mina and the rest of our team can join us. Maybe Mina can distract him with questions while you execute the new countermeasures?”

Eito asked, “Then what? Without the command-and-control power Mina won’t be able to do anything, even if the process is successful.”

I shook my head, “I’ll have to give it to her before I head to the lab in the morning. I’ll keep healing, body shaping to look like you, and three more powers we decide might be useful. So when she teleports in with the team, all the powers will be in the lab at that point to be updated, and Mina will already have the control and restoration power.”

I turned to Ayumi, “We’ll need to recruit your family into this. I can’t hand over the power while I still have more than five, and I can’t give her more than five without her having that power. Which means I need to dump them on your relatives, give the control power to Mina, then she can drain them. Do you think they’d be willing? It will take seven of them to do it.”

Five powers each, eight way split with me makes the forty I now held. Technically thirty nine, because I could hand over the control power while still having the five I was keeping in me.

Ayumi nodded, “I’ll ask them for seven volunteers. It is the least they could do, after you saved all our lives.”

“It won’t hurt them, just knock them unconscious for a short time, and the powers will be gone from them before that happens. Excellent, so someone needs to coach me on how to be you, enough so that I’ll be able to pull it off for the short time involved. That and keeping Cerberus in the lab for the time required to update the power permission access list seems to be the only gray areas in the plan. Once it’s done, Mina can pull all the powers to her and put Cerberus in stasis or in a containment cell.”

Eito said, “I’d prefer containment. He is still my son, and perhaps being stuck in a human body with no powers will allow him to be redeemed in time, to connect with humanity. If not… we can always put him in stasis later, to prevent him suffering in his immortality.”

I nodded, “I have no objections to that at all.
