CHAPTER NINE
CARRINGTON
It's been a week since Ava moved into my home, but it feels like she's always been here.
I thought I'd feel awkward having her in the house, but I don't.
Ava has fitted in seamlessly, and it already feels like she's exactly where she's supposed to be. Itâs like she was always a part of me.
I never believed in destiny, but this may be a sign that I was meant to have her.
Yeah, it sounds ridiculous to even think about it. I was the one who proposed a one-month contract. And now I want her to stay? Like forever?
It's just a part of my fantasy, and I hope this feeling passes soon. And until then, I'll try not to think it's temporary; I'll just enjoy the moment while it lasts.
"How was your day?" Ava asks when I walk into the living room, coming home straight from work, giving me a wide smile.
When she looks at me like thatâas if my coming home to her is the best part of her dayâmy heart melts, and I do my best not to show it. I don't want her to know how addicted I am to her smile and those moments we spend together.
"It was okay," I say, smiling back and sitting on the couch beside her.
I used to go to the club after the office, but now, knowing that Ava's waiting for me makes me want to get home as soon as possible.
And it's not just because we have incredible chemistry, which we obviously do, having sex countless times per day, sometimes the whole night. We talk about everything. And she understands me better than my friends, who have known me for years. And the most incredible part is that I want to share things with her. My feelings, emotions, and even fears. I like it.
Usually, I wake her up before work, unable to wait to be inside her. She's half asleep but ready to take me. I know she's not a morning person. She dances all night and enjoys sleeping until ten or eleven, but I can't resist. We have only one month together, and I want to get the most out of it.
I also like hugging her. I was never a person who wanted to cuddle. I always thought it was a waste of time, but with Ava, it's different. She smells so good.
I fell asleep beside her several times, which had never happened to me before. Of course, I returned to my room in the middle of the night. Sleeping in the same bed as a woman is not my thing. Or at least, that's what I tell myself every day when I leave her bedroom.
Ava is reading one of the books she took from the shelves at my home office.
"Do you like it?" I look at the book. It's Life of Pi by Yann Martel, one of my all-time favorites.
"Yeah," she says. "It's terrific. I'm almost done. But I'm rereading it. I've read it many times before; it's one of my favorites.
