Heading down to the basement, Jade found the curator’s office. It was stuffed full of boxes, old papers, and even older artifacts. The man sitting at the desk was old with white hair. He sat hunched over and his round glasses were well high up on his nose. His wrinkles were well worn, but his face looked cheery enough. Jade decided instantly that she liked this man much better than Ms. Atkins.

She gave a little knock on his door. The man jumped in his seat and looked up in shock as if no one had ever come down to his office before. He slowly lifted himself out of his leather chair and stood up with shaking legs. He grabbed the cane that was next to him and quickly hobbled over to Jade. There was no way he could’ve stolen the trunk, but it was still a good idea to ask him some questions. He might know what was so important about this trunk that it was worth stealing. Maybe he’d have a clue that Jade didn’t have yet.
