How to Project Quarterbacks

I just explained why the formula for projecting quarterback passing yards is 50 percent of the previous year’s total plus 50% of the league average, as determined by your league’s starting requirements. To produce the formulas for the other quarterback statistics, we need the strength of correlation numbers and league averages (these are for 12-team leagues in 2012):

Quarterback Correlations

Passing Yards: 0.50

Passing Touchdowns: 0.37

Interceptions: 0.08

Rushing Yards: 0.78

Rushing Touchdowns: 0.50

Quarterback League Averages

Passing Yards: 3,610 (one starter), 2,479 (two starters)

Passing Touchdowns: 21 (one starter), 13 (two starters)

Interceptions: 9 (one starter), 14 (two starters)

Rushing Yards: 128 (one starter), 79 (two starters)

Rushing Touchdowns: 2 (one starters), 1 (two starters)
