Two weeks later I received a letter from Caracas. It was from Jill.

August 30

Dear Mr. Minuchin,

You asked me to write to you the day I walked without the cane, and that is exactly what I am now doing. I sincerely thank you for what you have done this year to help my family and me; and I don’t know if I could ever repay you entirely, but by being your friend.

I certainly hope that I shall see you again, and in Europe if possible, or even here in Venezuela, but one thing is sure, I would like to go on corresponding with you wherever we go and whatever we do. I shall miss you very much.
