“Stop making me like you,” I grumbled.

She stopped rubbing and blinked at me a few times, then shook her head, ears flapping. I slid my hand over her cheek and down her neck, stroking her sleek coat in a steady rhythm.

“Daddy, can we ride Inna?” Shane ran up and asked.

I chuckled and ruffled his hair. “Nah, buddy. Not yet.”

“Will you ride her?”

“Maybe.”

“Will Mommy?”

“Probably.”

“Will she be used for therapizing?” Roger asked.

I poked his belly. “Therapy. And I’m not sure.”

Shane shrugged. “So why is she here?”

I let out a loud bark of laughter. “Great question, kiddo.” I knelt down in front of them and studied their identical faces. “Hey, so… guess what tomorrow is?”

“Mommy’s birthday?” Roger raised an eyebrow.

I gaped. And how he could do the eyebrow already, I had no idea. I blamed his mother.

“How did you know that?”

“Mommy’s birthday’s in August. And it’s August.”

“How’d you know it was August?” I barely knew.

“Mommy shows us her calendar.”

That was smart. “Well, you guys are smarter than your old man, aren’t you?”

They nodded. It was true sometimes.

“Okay, I have an idea for Mommy’s birthday present. Do you think you guys can go to bed in your own beds tonight and stay there? All night?”
