I whistle the refrain of the song we’ve been recording since yesterday. It’s upbeat with catchy lyrics and a guitar solo that hits you right in the gut. It’s been a long time since I’ve wanted to move my fingers so fast across my guitar fretboard, and I’m sure our fans are going to love it. I’m convinced this album will reach the top of the charts because we’ve stretched ourselves creatively, no longer constrained by the limits our old label imposed on us. I hand a coffee to each of my bandmates in the studio as I make my way to my guitar gear.

“Why is he whistling like a Disney princess?” Damian puzzledly asks Thomas, who is sipping his coffee watching me.

“I don’t know, but unless he starts talking to birds, I don’t want to know what it is.”

Simon, on the other hand, studies me with a stern face and guilt grips my stomach. I loved kissing Faith, and I hope she’ll give me the signal to do it again as soon as possible—that is, open the door of this room and shove her tongue in my mouth. I’m as excited as a pre-teen kid. I haven’t had sex in weeks, and I’m worried about a kiss I promised Simon I would never give. His look makes me fry on the stool I’m sitting on.

“What the hell are you so happy about?” he asks me finally.

I look up and smile at him. “I promised Levi I’d take him to Mexico to see the butterfly forest.”

He looks at me like I’ve just confessed to a murder. “Fatherhood is a bad influence on you. And also, why is a fourteen-year-old boy interested in butterflies?”

I laugh and shake my head. “I don’t know, man. He discovered them in one of those documentaries he always watches. He’s like a sponge, that kid, whatever he watches he learns and assimilates. He’s fascinated by how things work, by the strange mysteries of the world.”

“You’d better make sure you don’t download any porn. At that age, they look for everything online.” We burst out laughing, and I’m relieved Simon seems to believe my story.

“Can we start by going through ‘Moonlight’ and then record the tracks?” I try to divert the attention away from my smile and my good mood.

“Why so fast? Do you have to go home to your wife?” Thomas jokes, and I give him the side-eye.

“No, because I can’t wait to release this album and go on tour. I haven’t fucked anyone in weeks, and I’m going crazy. So move your fat asses and let’s get to it. My dick is wasting in my pants.”

They smile and shake their heads but finally hurry to their instruments and nod to Greg on the other side of the glass. The song starts with a spoken first verse by Damian. No music, just his gritty voice full of sensuality. Then Simon joins in on bass, slowly Thomas begins and finally me. A rush of pleasure flows through me as my fingers touch the strings, and the vibrations expand deep inside me.
