Mars’s Speedy Little Moons
Mars has two moons: Phobos and Deimos. The names of these moons bolster Mars’s brand as a war-like deity. The word phobos means “fear,” and deimos means “terror.” With mean diameters of 13.5 miles and 7.5 miles respectively, they are about the size of small cities, but they are so close to the planet that they would appear as the brightest objects in the nighttime sky. And they appear to move rapidly. On a nice Martian evening you could watch Phobos and Deimos wander through the constellations.
