Havasu Falls during a flood

Although Supai Village was spared significant damage, the narrow sections of the canyon that host the well-known waterfalls and quiet campground were ravaged by the raging floodwaters that flowed nonstop for nearly three days. Bridges were washed out, trees were toppled, and 1,600 feet of trails were obliterated or damaged. Navajo Falls, a favorite water playground of hikers, was suddenly sucked dry; in its place a plunging red canyon and three new waterfalls emerged. The fragile travertine aprons at the top of Havasu Falls were chipped and eroded, causing the falls to drop at a different angle into the aqua pools below.

The next destination for the floodwaters was the campground, where the gentle slope slowed the flow and caused the sediment and debris to drop, dumping approximately 450,000 cubic yards of silt and debris in the campground—and raising the elevation of the campground by six feet. Of the 90 picnic tables in the campground, only 3 escaped being buried under the sediment. Farther downstream, Mooney Falls and Beaver Falls had the least visible damage, but close examination reveals even these were battered by the immensity of the flood.
