Tyler State Park in Bucks County (not to be confused with Tyler Arboretum in Delaware County) was purchased with Project 70 funds, then developed with funds from the Pennsylvania Land and Water Conservation and Recreation Act. There are a total of 38 km of trails in the park. Most are paved multiuse trails for bicyclists, walkers, joggers, hikers, and, in some places, equestrians. Neshaminy Creek divides the park into the eastern section, which is developed, and the western, where most of the trails are located. Since the Schofield Covered Bridge was destroyed by arson in 1991, the only link between east and west is a pedestrian causeway near the boathouse parking area.
Two low dams on Neshaminy Creek provide some slack water for boating. There is a youth hostel near the northern end of the park, and you may meet cars going to or from the hostel.
About 25 percent of the park is leased for agriculture; corn, winter wheat, hay, and soybeans are grown. After harvest, the cornfields are invaded by hundreds of Canada geese swooping down for fast food; some of the geese are permanent residents, but park officials hope that most are still migratory. There is no hunting at Tyler Park.
This hike is mostly on paved trails, so walking shoes are fine.
