BOLAN AND THE NOCS COMMANDO were showered with debris. With the echoes of the blast fading, the Executioner discerned the sound of car doors slamming and engines tearing away from the scene.
The commando and Bolan pushed themselves to their feet and rushed across the smoking garage. The men ran through the clutter of machinery that had taken the brunt of the blast.
The commando gave Bolan a curt nod. He knew now that they were on the same side, they were working together.
The defender by the doors had not been so lucky. His corpse was propped up against one wall. He looked like a freshly gutted animal.
Bolan and the commando ran out into the sunny street to see both hit cars roar away in opposite directions.
Bolan and the Italian anti-terrorist stood back-to-back in the center of the narrow side street. The pair had only one chance and they knew it: hope for a perfect shot.
The big guy adopted a shooting-range stance. He aimed and fired.
His ears were filled with the chatter of the M-12 machine gun being fired by the commando behind him. But his eyes were full of the car he aimed at.
Bolan's bullet pierced the back right tire. The auto swerved slightly. Bolan fired again. The car lost what little control remained. It plowed into a brick building with phenomenal force. Within seconds of impact, the car was enveloped in a fireball that blew out windows.
Bolan glanced over his shoulder. The commando at his back had crippled the other getaway. Figures were spilling from that car.
An agonized scream brought the big guy's attention back to the car he had sent sailing into the wall. Bolan saw a figure covered in flames, stumbling from the fire, shrieking in terror. The Executioner erased the agony with a mercy shot.
No one else emerged from the fiery wreck. The car and the terrorists were being eaten alive by flames.
Bolan turned to check on the Italian commando's action. Three men had emerged from the car and were cautiously advancing toward the commando, who stood covering them with his M-12. He ordered them to halt and place their hands on their heads.
The Executioner saw something the NOCS man was obviously blind to: a fourth terrorist had left the wreckage and was crawling around the side of the car that faced away from the commando's vision. The hardguy was carrying a MAC-11 machine pistol, and his aim was centered on the skull of the commando.
Big Thunder tracked around and down. The gun chugged almost unnoticed amid the roar of battle still raging around the front of the building. Another hit sounded from the grenade launcher as the hardguy with the MAC-11 rolled over, his face having absorbed the force of the bullet.
The three terrorists heard their buddy drop his weapon and that cued them into action. They broke their loose formation, no longer feigning surrender. They scattered like flies, tugging pistols from belt holsters.
Bolan continued the arm sweep that had taken out the terrorist behind the car.
