Philo thought it was funny but she didn’t want to laugh. There was a saying about closing the stable door after the horse has left and it seemed to fit, even if she couldn’t remember the exact words. It made her think of herself as a horse, running mad through the North Wall, with people running after her and shouting that Tommo had given up the drink. She couldn’t figure out what put these thoughts into her head, but they were nice thoughts. It was good to be a horse, especially with no jockey on her back.-I know I have a problem and I know it’s the drink—Tommo said in a penitent voice.
