Cerilla and Sebastian awoke with a start, due to a horrified squealing and loud thud echoing around them. They had previously been tangled around one another, limbs intertwined so much it was hard to see where one of them ended and the other began. But at awakening with the threat of danger, Sebastian removed himself from her in a second. Warm hands gently positioned her behind him and then ignited with flames to defend her.

“What is it?” Cerilla asked, aggressively rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

“I don’t know.” Nothing but her safety was on his mind. Whimpers and squeals echoed around the cave, drawing their eyes to their intruder.

Cerilla placed her hands on his hips, peering around his bicep. “Flash your fire over there.” Had he not been fearful for the safety of his mate he would have laughed at her description of his powers. He followed her direction, sending a flash of fire out to the farthest corner of their cave.

“Is that…” Cerilla squinted her eyes. “A boar?”

“It is.” Sebastian bent down slowly, grabbing a knife. Though he was glad it wasn’t an enemy invading their cave, there was still an element of danger. “And he’s hurt from the fall. He will likely charge once he notices us. Stay back and don't let his tusks cut you.” Sebastian turned to make eye contact with her, doing what his father told him to never do. Which was, never take his eyes off of an adversary. A panicked cry erupted from the beast as it charged Sebastian, digging its broken, jagged tusk into his calf.

Sebastian’s cry of pain echoed in Cerilla’s chest, hurting her soul in a way she had never experienced before. His pain was now her pain, and with each step they took toward accepting their soulbond this would become more and more true.

“Bash!” She cried. Literally cried, with a single tear dripping down her cheek. He fell to the ground, hands clutched around the gaping wound which was pouring coppery blood at an alarming rate. The boar ran back again, kicking its feet out in aggressive manner – alerting Cerilla to his impending charge. Though small, boars can be deadly, and Sebastian was in no state to protect them. The same primal protector that had awoken in Sebastian the day of their mating turned on inside Cerilla. She grabbed his sword, poising herself for attack.

“Ceri, no!” His voice was weak and choked. The wound was bad, but under most circumstances not deadly, but he hadn't had access to the full sun in far too long, and he was weak. This meant that any injury would debilitate and maybe kill him if Cerilla didn't act fast. She needed to heal him, but first she had to slay the beast before her.

Cerilla ignored him and instead stepped in front of Sebastian, blocking the boar's path to her injured mate. She was going to kill it, both as a mercy to the injured beast and for protection of herself and Sebastian.
